He was born in China as a second child at the time of the one-child policy. His father had to pay three years' salaries to give birth to him. At the age of 26, creator Louis Hothothot moved to the Netherlands and four years later he traveled back to China, to his illegal childhood and to the feelings of guilt towards his parents who paid such a high price for his existence. While Louis tries to repair the disturbed relationship with his parents, they insist that he have children. Ironically, China is now pursuing a three-child policy.
