Rene Roelofs finally got permission to make a film about the daily routine in the Lower House and to start shooting in the Hague backrooms in the spring of 2002. In his two-part documentary, Roelofs follows the daily activities of different MPs, including newcomers Philomena Bijlhout and Firoes Zeroual of the LPF and experienced MPs Theo Rietkerk (CDA) and Agnes Kant (SP).

REIS DOOR DE LEEGTE (2002)
Regisseur Rene Roelofs emigreerde in 1982 naar Australie. Het land heeft ongeveer evenveel inwoners als Nederland, maar is tweehonderdvijftig maal zo groot. Roelofs werd gelokt door de goede verhalen over de filmindustrie, de uitgestrekte ruigheid en het mooie weer. Maar in 1988 keerde hij terug; hij miste zijn Nederlandse wortels en voelde zich nooit helemaal thuis bij de Australische mentaliteit van `don't worry, mate'.

DUTCH APPROACH (2000)
In four episodes, the documentary tells the terrifying story of this period of Moluccan hijackings, from Wassenaar in 1970 to the provincial administration building in Assen in 1978. All those involved have their say in this meticulous documentary. The unknown, neglected and largely secret details of the negotiations throw a new light on one of the most important post-war events in Holland.
The Dutch Approach is a film about decision-makers on the issues of life and death, the struggle of a people for self-determination and the damaged trust of Moluccans and hijack victims in the government.
